He was born on the NE ¼ 18-6-11 W2nd near Halbrite, Saskatchewan on June 10, 1934 in the family farmhouse with Doctor Mainprize delivering. Norm grew up with seven siblings in a three room house. There was no running water or power and their only source of heat was a wood burning stove. Farm life employed the whole family and together they learned the values of working together, living simply and the joy of succeeding in a common enterprise. Norman attended White Rock School which was a one room school house several miles from home. At the age of 14, He chose to end his schooling in order to farm with his dad. Farming became his vocation and his passion for the rest of his life. Norm did manage to operate a combine for a few days of the 2014 harvest from which he derived great pleasure.
On June 6, 1958 Norman married his lifelong love, Helen Gallinger. Together they raised a family of four children and operated their farm side by side for 56 years. Norman was a great moderator and involvement in his community was offered without reservation. He brought his fairness and common sense to the table without any personal agenda often acting as chair person to the various committees he served. Norman was a man of few hobbies as community service filled any void in his spare time.
Norman leaves a lifetime of loving memories for his family, friends and neighbors. His four children, his 13 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren receive his legacy of following the path that you know in your heart is right. Do your best, council and coach without judgment and take the time to laugh.......long and from the heart. His loving wife Helen is left with his timeless devotion, the encouragement to meet each new day with a smile and the promise to be patiently waiting for her when next they meet. As Norman felt his earthly light dimming and his physical limitations growing by the day, his often repeated prayer to God was to "please keep my family safe." Norman loved to laugh, loved his friends & above all lived his life for his family.
