Raymond Leroy Kelley

It is with sadness we announce the passing of our father, Raymond Leroy Kelley. Ray passed peacefully on August 20, 2015 while a resident at Tatagwa View. Ray was predeceased by his parents Frank and Hazel Kelley, late of Weyburn, Saskatchewan. He is remembered by his children, Colleen Kelley (Edmond Helstab) of Ottawa ON and their children, Justine, Morgan, Joseph and Lauren; Jim (Deanna) of Saskatoon, SK and children, Marisa and Mason; Jeff (Trina) of Red Deer, AB and children, Olivia, Megan and Hannah. He is also survived by his sisters, Shirley (Clarence) Dorsch of Calgary, AB, Joan (Wayne) Gent of Red Deer, AB, and Linda (Carman) McLeod of Weyburn SK as well as several nieces and nephews. Ray was born at the family farm near Talmage, Saskatchewan on December 12, 1936. In 1962 he was married to Sandra Riddell of Creelman. Our family lived on the farm until 1966 and then split our time between our home in Weyburn and the farm. Following a serious car accident in 1969, he closed his Allis Chalmers Farm Implement Dealership “Kelley’s Farm Supply” and focused on farming full-time. He actively farmed up until 2001. At that time he retired from farming and moved back into Weyburn. Dad loved the land and the farm and his lively-hood revolved around building a successful farm operation. He was actively involved in the inception of the Weyburn Inland Terminal, served as a counselor at the RM of Fillmore for over twenty years and enjoyed selling short line farm equipment while he was farming. A formidable athlete in his youth, he enjoyed many sports and particularly favoured watching the Blue Jays or curling in his spare time. He was a prolific collector as many farmers are, and had a tremendous love of all animals, surprising us on many occasions with new pets. He leaves us instilled with the value of hard work and an appreciation for the land and its bounty. Visitation took place on Monday, August 24, 2015 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, Saskatchewan. The Funeral Service was held on Tuesday August 25 at 1:00 p.m. from Grace United Church, Weyburn, Saskatchewan with Reverend M. Barnabas officiating. Interment followed at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Donations in memory of Raymond may be made to the Alzheimer Association.
