April 19, 1921 – November 30, 2021
William Wesley Fields was born on April 19, 1921 to his parents, Thomas and Annie Fields. Willie was an only child. He attended Fraser School which was located just down the railroad tracks east of their farmstead.
“Willie” as he was affectionately known throughout the community lived with his parents and in 1953, after the death of his father, Willie took over the operation of the family farm. Willie and his mother continued to live on the farm until the death of his mother in 1968. After harvest in 1975, Willie sold the farm and moved into Stoughton. Willie was a capable, well informed, and well respected, member of the Heward, and Stoughton communities.
His contributions have been significant in many areas, being on various Boards and committees. He was an early member of the newly formed United Grain Growers (UGG), member of the Heward Cemetery Board, Trossach Gospel Camp Board and the Tecumseh History Books Committee. He was a long-time member of the Stoughton Apostolic Church and served on the Church Board.
Because of Willie’s incredible memory for details, he was often a resource person for history of the area.
Willie was a very skilled machinist often spending hours at his lathe, building a part for local farmers or building a model for some project he was working on. Willie also had a keen interest in the transportation industry particularly, the railroad and older cars. He loved to travel and often spent the winters in the southern U.S.A.
At the age of 100 he was still blessed with being able to drive his own vehicle and do his own shopping and cooking until about 3 months before his passing.
Willie’s life was always centered on his devotion to living a Christ-like life. In 1 Corinthians 4:2 we read, “Moreover, it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.” Truly, Willie’s life was an example of that principle being lived out.
On November 30, 2021, Willie left this life to be with the Lord he loved and served so faithfully.
Matthew 25:21, “His Lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant, you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of the Lord.”
A Funeral Service took place on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 1:00 PM from the Stoughton Apostolic Church, Stoughton, Saskatchewan with Pastor Darrel Durksen officiating. Interment followed in Heward Cemetery, Heward, Saskatchewan.
Donations in memory of William may be made to The Weyburn Salvation Army Corps at 126 4th Street NE Weyburn, SK S4H 0V1.
