

Albert Martinez (Almar, Al, Shorty, Tio), 81, born in Fort Collins, December 20, 1940, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 8th, 2022. Almar was preceded in death by his parents, Cristobal Ignacio Martinez and Mary T. Ortiz, in-laws, Arthur and Theresa Valadez, and siblings, Nena Estrada, Cora Mangles, Jesse J Martinez, Christopher Harold Martinez, and Melvin J Martinez.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Marie A. Martinez and their two children, Michele Orrino (Dave) and Meloney Martinez (Kevin), 2 grandchildren, Joseph Orrino (Emily) and Lissa Orrino (Pam) and 4 great-grandchildren, Manny, Oscar, Frances and Edith; sisters Linda Martinez Groditski, Cookie Riley, Christine Valdez (Silas) and Maroline Ritter (Lee-Hi) and sister-in-laws Marion Martinez, Freida Martinez and Jean Ziatz-Lanckiewicz (Tony) and brother-in-law John Valadez, and numerous family members in Colorado, California and Texas.
Almar was a loving father and devoted husband. He was a very generous, giving, caring, loving man and touched so many hearts in so many ways. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Metropolitan State College in 1971 and received a scholarship to Denver University where he secured his Master’s degree in Public Administration in 1973. He retired as Budget Director for the State of Colorado, Department of Social Services in 1998.
Almar loved spending time with this family and friends, golfing, fishing, playing backyard volleyball, poker, and chess. He also enjoyed watching the local sports teams: the Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies, and Colorado Avalanche. More recently, he enjoyed his “sweet rolls” and watching his programs. He had a great sense of witty humor and liked to joke around and have a good time.
An interment for Almar will take place Monday, January 23, 2023, at 2:30 pm at Fort Logan National Cemetery, shelter B. Please arrive at 2:15. Enter at the North gate, take 2nd right to holding area, where we will process to Shelter B.
Following the interment there will be a Celebration of Life at 3:00 pm at Veterans of Foreign Wars, 2680 W Hampden Ave., Sheridan, CO.
