Fern grew up on a farm in Oberlin, Kansas with five brothers and sisters. She graduated from Oberlin High School in 1934 and then taught school in a one room schoolhouse before moving to Denver. She met and married Lloyd Burton Torrey, a Union Pacific Railroader, in 1942, and had two daughters, Diane Torrey (Tom) Gilcrest and Donna Torrey (Gary) Antonoff.
In addition to raising her two daughters, she worked various jobs outside the home with her last position as a proof machine operator at the Colorado State Bank. She retired after 30 years.
She loved to travel, was an avid reader, a fabulous cook and baker, an accomplished seamstress and the biggest fan the Denver Broncos could ever have...but the thing she loved the most was the theatre, especially musicals. She never, ever wanted them to end.
Fern is survived by her daughters, her brothers, Robert Fraker of Oberlin and Dennis Fraker of Denver, her sisters Phyllis Fraker Bay of Aurora and Shirley Fraker Ott of Arvada and her sister-in-law Betty Torrey Parker of Garden Grove, California. She is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews and numerous friends, many of whom affectionately called her "Funny, Friendly, Fernie, Fraker". She was loved. She will be missed.
