Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Bruce had a lifelong connection to his hometown, where he attended Gilman School. At Gilman, he formed friendships that lasted a lifetime and created cherished memories playing tennis and lacrosse.
After graduating from Gilman, he attended Williams College and then pursued medical school at the University of Maryland, graduating with the class of 1965. He completed his internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Maryland, followed by a residency in Internal Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He completed a fellowship in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Colorado returning to the University of Maryland as chief resident from 1970 to 1971.
Bruce served his country with dedication, spending 10 years in the reserves before completing his active military service as a Major at Fitzsimons Medical Center.
He specialized in pulmonary medicine and had a private practice in Denver, Colorado, for 35 years. Known for his commitment to his patients, his practice included rural outreach, with regular trips to Nebraska and a six-month locum tenens in New Zealand. He was inducted in the Colorado Pulmonary Hall of Fame in 2003.
Bruce is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Linda; his son, Allen (daughter-in-law Mindy); his daughter, Kelly (son-in-law Craig); and his beloved grandchildren, Clayton, Alexandra, Kylie, Jessica and Danielle.
Known to many as "Bruce" and to his grandchildren as "Poppy," he will be remembered for his fun-loving and playful spirit. His unique "Roses are Red, Violets are Blue" poems delighted family and friends, as did his homemade bread and rhubarb jelly, which he loved sharing with loved ones and neighbors. He spoke in acronyms, finding joy when someone could decipher them, and he had a lifelong passion for football and tennis, remaining an avid fan throughout his life.
