Carroll graduated from Lone Star High School, a country school in farm country between Yuma and Otis, Colorado, and received Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Northern Colorado. He received an Administrator’s endorsement in education from Colorado State University in 1971.
Carroll and Dolores Pfeifer married in 1969 after meeting at the University of Northern Colorado. They were blessed with two children: Julia and James. Their family has grown to Julia’s husband, Mark, and their two girls: Sophia (12) and Adelaide (10). James married Delana and they have two boys: Carver (11) and Duncan (8).
Carroll was a business and vocational education teacher, vocational director, and assistant principal at Adams City High School in Commerce City, Colorado for 30 years. After retiring, he returned to Adams City High to serve as the Interim Principal in the fall of 2000. He had a place in his heart for Lutheran High School after sending two children there, so when asked to teach an accounting class, said “yes.” This led to his serving as Interim Director of CLHS until 2005. He returned to Adams City High to lead the planning and implementation of a vocational program located at the new school building. He once again “retired” from education in 2010.
Carroll had a servant’s heart. During his professional career, he served as state president of the following organizations: Colorado Vocational Association, Colorado Business Education Association, and Delta Pi Epsilon. He was a member of the Georgetown Historic Society, Commerce City Historic Society, and board member of the Commerce City Board of Adjustment. He served Our Saviour Lutheran Church for over 47 years in many ways by holding every office and chairing many committees. After moving to a new home in Denver to be closer to their children, he and his wife Dolores recently joined St. John’s Lutheran Church.
He will be remembered as a holiday decorating enthusiast, baker of fine muffins, Disney aficionado, classic model car collector, eager board game competitor and a joy to everyone who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Colorado Lutheran High School Association.
