November 17, 1928 – July 12, 2025
Claudine Schwartz-Sutherland, 96, of Westminster, Colorado, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025.
Claudine was born on November 17, 1928, in Rio, Wisconsin, to Nelvin and Lyda Monson. She was raised on her family’s dairy farm alongside her five siblings (Vernon, Dorothy (Lynn), Lorraine (Jack), Gertrude, and Kenny (Joan)). Growing up she learned the values of hard work, resilience, and family—qualities that remained central to her life.
A proud graduate of East High School in Madison, Wisconsin, (till the end she had that old East Side pep!) Claudine went on to study at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She later built a remarkable career in real estate, working as a dedicated realtor and broker for 53 years, retiring at the age of 86.
On June 5, 1948, Claudine married Wilbur (Bill) Howard Schwartz in Madison, Wisconsin. Together they raised three children: Timothy Alan Schwartz, Paula Leigh Schwartz (deceased, 1967), and Dean Arthur Schwartz (deceased, 1994). Claudine was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, always placing family at the heart of her world.
She is survived by her son Timothy Schwartz; her grandchildren Amy Michelle Schwartz Ramos (Keith), Allison Leigh Schwartz Weber (Justin), and Henry William Schwartz (Lisa); and her beloved great-grandchildren Julia Ramos, Hudson Weber, Reece Ramos, Brady Ramos, Harper Weber, Harlow Weber, Lindy Schwartz, and Finnley Schwartz.
In addition to her first husband, Claudine was preceded in death by her second husband, Robert Feagin (married 2008, passed 2014). She is survived by her third husband, Russel Sutherland, whom she married on January 18, 2017.
Claudine lived a full and vibrant life. She loved jazz and gospel music, had a lifelong passion for dancing, and was known for her warmth, humor, and nurturing spirit. She was a caregiver by nature and found joy in caring for others. She also had a playful side, enjoying occasional gambling in Black Hawk.
A woman of deep faith, one of her favorite verses was: “Be still and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10
Claudine’s life was a beautiful example of grace, generosity, and strength. She will be deeply missed by all who had the joy of knowing her.
A private family service will be held to honor Claudine’s memory. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice in her name.
