Dale was born on October 30, 1944, in Odell, Nebraska, to Frances and John Erdmann. He had the best of both worlds growing up. He spent his early years on the family farm helping to raise chickens, cows, and hogs. Watching his parents care for the farm and garden helped shape the strong work ethic he carried throughout his life—though, as the baby of the family, his older sisters would be quick to say they often picked up a little extra slack along the way.
In his teenage years, Dale’s farm life gave way to city living when the family moved to Commerce City, Colorado, complete with indoor plumbing.
After graduating from Adams City High School in 1963, Dale joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany where his folks visited him for an extended amount of time. He often described his service as anything but quiet, recalling confrontations with local groups that made his time overseas especially memorable. This new chapter also introduced him to a true lifelong love: beer.
Following his military service, Dale had a long and respected career as a highly skilled heavy equipment mechanic for Wagner and Tarco where he was one of the best component rebuild mechanics. He took immense pride in his trade until his retirement.
Dale married Sharron and together they built a beautiful home and family sharing many cherished memories. A devoted father to his most treasured blessings—Sherrie, Tracie and Donnie—Dale found fatherhood to be the greatest love and most important role of his life.
Following his first marriage, Dale later found love again when he married Amoree (Ami). Dale proudly welcomed and helped raise her three children-- Troy, Brandi and Jason. Together they created a warm and welcoming home in which he built strong and meaningful relationships with each of them.
As the children grew, Dale was joyfully introduced to grandchildren, a role in which he truly thrived, showering them with overwhelming amounts of love.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, John and Frances Erdmann; his wife, Amoree (Ami) and his former wife, Sharron.
Dale is survived by his beloved sisters, Joan Briggs (Chuck) and Norma Russell; his children, Sherrie Pillar (Ty), Tracie Hoffman (Lowell), and Donnie Erdmann (Samantha); his stepchildren, Troy Coffman (Valarie), Brandi Montoya (Donavin), and Jason Coffman (Destynee); his grandchildren, Valonika (Carlos), Megan (Tony), Allen (Kassey), Trent (Kirstin), Jordan (Bree), Dillon (Mickey), Justice (Vince), Shawnee (Miguel), Sarah, Jaimie, Brooke (Alex), Sammie (Alejandro), Brandon, Cale, and Bradyn; along with 19 great-grandchildren and many extended family members and friends.
Dale was a steady presence, a hard worker, and a pillar of strength for his family. His legacy lives through the guidance, laughter and love he shared throughout his life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 6th at 12 noon in the chapel at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary and Cemetery at 7777 W 29th Ave in Wheat Ridge Colorado with the Committal following at graveside. There will be a reception from 2-4 pm at the Wheat Ridge Recreation Center at 4005 Kipling St in Wheatridge Colorado 80033.
