Dr. Don E. Gibson, long time optometrist in Arvada, Colorado, died Sunday, January 14, 2018. Don was in Lutheran Home Hospice at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, Joann; niece, Patti Peterson; great-niece, Katie Lyman and her three children.
Don was born to Edith and James Gibson on May 11, 1930 in Denver, Colorado. He was a Life Member of the Colroado Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association, and named the COA Optometrist of the Year in 1976. He was instrumental in the formation of Colorado Vision Service Plan, providing eye care coverage to the public, and forming the William B. O’Rourke Foundation, granting funds to organizations and projects directed toward vision and eye care services.
Graveside service Thursday, January 18 at 1:00 p.m. at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary & Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Don’s name to the William B. O’Rourke Foundation (www.orourkefoundation.org), Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1071 (www.VVA1071.org), or Freedom Service Dogs (https://freedomservicedogs.org).
