

Don was born January 13, 1925, in Oak Park, Illinois, son of Raymond and Esther Welshon, and brother of Glen Welshon and Lynne Greaves. He graduated from Chicago’s Proviso East High School and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy. During World War II, he was an DC-3 navigator. Returning to civilian life, he earned a degree in engineering from Northwestern University. During his subsequent sixty year professional career, he worked for Armstrong Cork Company, Illinois Tool Works and, more recently, for Avedon Engineering. He was co-owner of Denver Plastics, Inc. from 1969 – 1982.
Don married Eleanor Graham in 1950 and they remained together for more than fifty years until death took her in 2009. Together, they had three children: Robert Christopher, Douglas Scott, and Lawrence Andrew.
Don was a long-time member of Kiwanis and of Applewood United Methodist Church. He worked on numerous charitable projects, including housing for the elderly and making wooden toys for poor families. In his free time, he enjoyed traveling with Eleanor, his children, grandchildren and friends, photography, and woodworking.
Don is survived by his sister, Lynne, his brother, Glen, his three sons Robert, Douglas, and Lawrence, and by five grandchildren.
