Edward is lovingly remembered by his wife, Renee; his two daughters, Diana and Marlena; his grandchildren, Max and Alex Hart; his sons-in-law, Todd Hart and Charles Burch; his brother, George Sanchez; and his sisters, Barbara Brinker and Bernice Lucero; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his mother, Cora Sanchez; his father Adelaido Sanchez; his in-laws; Henry and Eva Nuanez; and his sister, Marylee McAtee.
Edward, known by many as Eddie, was born on August 11, 1948 in Denver, Colorado to Cora and Adelaido. He graduated from Manual High School in 1966. Eddie then served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1970 during the Vietnam War in Germany and Thailand. Upon his honorable discharge and return to Denver, he wedded Renee Nuanez on July 17, 1971, and they were married for 48 years. In that time, they raised two daughters and created a happy home in Lakewood. Eddie was a devout Catholic, and it was his honor to serve as a Eucharistic minister alongside Renee during the 1980s-1990s. When he wasn’t at work, he enjoyed spending time with Renee and the girls camping, taking pictures of family, listening to Motown Oldies with friends and family, solving crossword puzzles, and creating memories through videography. After 20 years of service with the U.S. Mint, he retired in July 2010. In retirement Eddie could be found alongside Renee landscaping their backyard, watching his grandsons play sports, playing with his dog, and watching his Denver Nuggets and Broncos on television.
Ed was a pillar of strength and generosity to so many people. He took pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren, and he spent many years caring and providing for his wife. If you were a youngster, Ed was sure to give you advice on how to live an honorable and productive life. Eddie made you feel included and cared for whenever he saw you, so if you needed anything, he was always willing to share what he had. If there was a family gathering, Eddie’s boisterous laugh could be heard from two rooms away. His broad smile and his sense of humor will be missed the most.
Regretfully, due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) concerns at this time, a service will be held once restrictions are lifted. Until that time, we ask that you take a moment to reflect upon how Edward was part of your life. Sharing those thoughts, stories, photographs, and memories on-line will help all of us honor and celebrate Eddie’s life. These memories will be cherished, they will bring comfort to our family, and they will confirm that we are all better for having known him.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to American Diabetes Association in honor of Edward James Sanchez.
Please join us in celebrating Ed’s life with a rosary and mass, Friday, July 17, 2020. Unfortunately, due to social distancing, only the immediate family will be permitted at the entombment at Ft. Logan later in the day.
