He was born to Emil Aasby & Gertrude (Goehring) of Highmore, SD. He was drafted in the Army in 1958 and was stationed in Germany. Upon his return he fell in love with his wife Joyce (Bonnichsen) of 58 years, and he moved his family to Lochbuie, CO in 1964.
He worked various jobs to support his family. He was a Utility Contractor for 10 yrs., a trailer fabricator for 10 yrs., in Commerce City for Trailer Service, a master diesel/heavy equipment mechanic for Wagner Equipment for 18 yrs. and finally retiring from McDonald Farms in 2003. He was a member of Local 9 Operating Engineers until May of 1997. He was one of the founding members of the Lochbuie Lions Club in 1977.
He was an ornery man of few words with a great sense of humor. He was a master engineer with his hands that could make something out of nothing. Anyone who knew him in his younger years knew he loved to have fun making peppermint schnapps, dancing, watching sports, tinkering in his garage, watching NASCAR, watching PBR to follow local South Dakota cowboys Todd Suhn, K.C. Tibbs, and Tye Cowan. He also enjoyed watching Molly B’s Polka Party on Saturday nights. He couldn’t polka but he sure loved watching it.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Aasby, sister Lucy (Al) Sarmiento of Cripple Creek, CO, daughters Donna Aasby of Lochbuie, CO, Roxane (Troy) Stewart of Brighton, CO and Tammy (Bud) Holman of Keenesburg, CO, four grand-children Eric (Lindsay) Stewart, Sara (Keenan) Stevens, Dustin Wroblewski and Kate Holman, two great -grandsons Colton and Caleb Stewart, many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Leon Aasby, sister Virginia Aasby and grand-son Nick Aasby.
Services will be at 10:30 am on Mon 10/08 at Mt Calvary Lutheran Church, 650 S Park Ave., Ft. Lupton with viewing ½ hour prior and reception to follow. He will be laid to rest at Olinger Crown Hill Cemetery with military honors.
