Ellen was born in Denver, Colorado to David and Esther (Schumann) Stertz on December 17, 1944. After graduating from Adams City High School, she attended Colorado State College in Greeley for 2 years. In 1963 she married Gerald VonFeldt and was later blessed with two sons, Jason and Doug. During this time, she worked for Gardner Denver and Tri-State Electric but her dream was to start her own business and she did just that. First, she worked for American National Insurance and then started her own insurance brokerage agency, which she proudly ran for years. She met many people throughout her career and enjoyed making new friends. You weren’t just a client with Ellen, you became an extended member of the family. For holidays, she would often deliver an assortment of pies to her clients to pass along her spirit of wanting to bring sunshine to others’ lives.
Ellen enjoyed collecting dolls and figurines. She amassed a collection of over 1,500 dolls and proudly displayed many of them in her home. She had a dream of eventually opening a doll museum in the Denver area. She loved going to plays and musicals and was a long-time patron of the Arvada Center. Ellen loved God, her family and her country. She would often say during hard times, “When things get too hard to stand, Kneel”.
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, David and Esther Stertz and her brother, Herbert Eugene Stertz. She is survived by her two sons Jason Lee and Douglas Allan, their wives (Dana and Shanna), and her granddaughter Lily June and two grandsons Jason David and Colton Lee, who were the light of her life.
