Eugene Gerald Valerio

Eugene (Jerry) Valerio was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend to all, until he passed away at his home on May 6, 2022. During his 79-plus years (born September 13, 1942), his main goal and purpose in life was to take care of the people who mattered most to him.

After graduating from St. Joseph’s High School in 1960, Jerry embarked on a long career in the local printing industry, including 27 years in the plate making department at the Rocky Mountain News, where he worked until he retired in 2007.

He took great pride in working hard, doing things the right way, and helping others, especially his family. Jerry was a jack-of-all-trades, and there were few people in his life who didn’t benefit at one time or another from his various skills fixing and building things. It was yet another way he enjoyed serving his family and friends, always without hesitation.

When he wasn’t completing a project somewhere, Jerry enjoyed riding his motorcycle, drinking a cold beer or two, eating tamales, and rooting for his Denver Broncos. He became an original season ticket holder when the franchise started in 1960 and maintains those tickets today, only briefly giving up his seats while he served in the Colorado National Guard from 1964-1970.

But what mattered most to Jerry was his immediate family: his surviving and devoted wife of nearly 55 years, Marlene (Rodriguez); he is a role model to his sons Gerald (Sandra) and Jeffery (Shelly), and the most special place in his heart was reserved for the biggest joys of his life: his grandchildren AJ, Dani, Sydney, Kacey and McKenna. All will miss his warm heart and quick wit immensely.

Jerry also is survived by his mother Ida Cole, brothers Eddie, David and Steve, and sisters Carolyn (Clink), Lennie (Abeyta) and Yvonne (Valerio), in addition to several nieces and nephews.
