Flora was born September 23, 1921 near Fraser, Colorado. Flora skied, fished, rode sleds pulled by horses and all other mountain activities in the 1920s and 1930s. Flora moved to Denver and worked for her room and board while attending North High School. After graduation she worked at Swift & Company operating a comptometer. Flora, as a woman ahead of her time, pursued becoming an airline pilot but gave up after being told that with all the WWII pilots coming home she would most likely not be hired. Flora, as a single female, bought the duplex home she lived in until her passing. She met Merlyn who was visiting his parents next door to the duplex. He had just returned from his service in WWII. They married and had a very full life. Merlyn built an office behind their residence for his business and Flora’s parents (Minnie and Victor) lived in the other side of the duplex. Family was extremely important to Flora and Merlyn. They were both very giving with providing love and other assistance when needed. A celebration of Flora’s life will be held at a date to be determined in the summer or fall of 2011.
