This is my favorite picture of Tubby. I will miss him a lot. The things he did were amazing and I am lucky that I got to know Tubby. He will be missed.

CONTINUED: Despite a difficult past, Tubby’s life became a testament to laughter, love, courage, and relentless advocacy. He lived in a body some considered limited, but to those who knew him, Tubby had no limits. He refused to be defined by the label "crippled" — instead, he carved his own path: bold, sharp-witted, and unyielding in his spirit.
He had a smile that could disarm and a sense of humor that left rooms changed. His presence lit up every space — not in spite of his condition, but because of the grace and perspective it gave him.
More than just a source of joy, Tubby was a fighter for justice. In 1978, he was one of the activist of the historic “Gang of 19” protest in Denver, where he and others in wheelchairs blocked buses to demand accessible public transportation and public building accessibility. That act of civil disobedience helped ignite the disability rights movement and laid the groundwork for the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Tubby’s life wasn’t quiet. It was a life that challenged limits, stirred movements, and helped change the way we see disability — and possibility.
As we remember Tubby, we don’t just mourn the loss of a beloved brother, uncle, and friend — we celebrate a life that made this world more just, more joyful, and more accessible for all.
His legacy rolls on.  Rest in power Tubby.

In Loving Memory of Francis C. Peyrouse ("Tubby") January 18, 1940 – July 21, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Francis C. Peyrouse, lovingly known as Tubby, who left us on July 21, 2025, at the age of 85.
Tubby was born on January 18, 1940, in Denver, Colorado, to Francis and Helen Peyrouse. He grew up in Wheat Ridge, CO, and spent much of his early life at Ridge Home, a residential program for disabled people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Tubby was born with cerebral palsy, but he never allowed that to define his life.
He is survived by his sister Joan Peyrouse Hedges (Stephen deceased), brother James Peyrouse (Sharon), Gerald Peyrouse (deceased)(Shirley), nephews and nieces Daniel Peyrouse, Gregory Hedges, Bruce Hedges, Joli Hedges, Jodi Pinckernell, Adam Peyrouse, Aaron Peyrouse, Chris Peyrouse, and James Peyrouse.
Tubby remained at Ridge Home into adulthood until it was closed. At the age of 33 He was transferred to a geriatric nursing home where he live for 2 years,
that is when Wade Blank started a youth wing at the Heritage House for disabled youth, which he called Atlantis. Tubby moved to this wing of the heritage house to be with this group to be a part of the progressive interactive lifestyle that Wade provided. They provided him with independent living services, housing, meals, in-home care, and job training to those with disabilities. CONTINUE

Tubby had so much Wisdom to share!! I miss his smile! Rest in peace and power. He was a contributing fighter for disability rights..
