George Clarence Bowen, born in Greenville, TX on September 30, 1936, and passed away on August 2, 2025. He was 88 years old. He was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Hargis, who passed away in 2023, and his wife of 52 years, Alberta ‘Lynn’ Bowen, who passed away in 2020 at the age of 80. He is survived by his son G. Michael Bowen (Margaret) of Ardmore, OK; and daughter, Jacque L Nelles (Charles) of Scottsdale, AZ. He was the proud grandfather of Jerod, Krystin, Lily, Kate, and Charlie and great grandparent to Bryan and Raylee. He was also very invested in the lives of several nephews and niece and their children.
George and Martha had a modest upbringing with a highly educated, single mother who was an accomplished educator in Dallas, TX. He served in the US Army from 1960 to 1962 Active Duty and was stationed at Fort Riley, KS then served one tour in Korea. After the Army, George moved to Colorado where he met Lynn at Western Airlines. They were married in March 1969. They briefly lived in California but were brought back to Colorado where George began his career in the finance industry. George was a graduate of University of Colorado and became a CPA in 1973. George worked in finance and was a mutual funds executive and then board member in his later years; 1970-2011 (retired).
George was an avid outdoorsman and took every opportunity he could to ski, scuba, camp, fish, hike and drive every nook and cranny of Colorado. He was also a pilot and enjoyed flying whenever time would allow. In recent years he became a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Highlands Ranch.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary, 7777 West 29th Ave, Wheatridge, CO 80033 in the Serenity Pointe Chapel. A small reception will be held immediately after the memorial. George will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Olinger Crown Hill Cemetery with his late wife.
