Gerald Orville Bailey of Lakewood, Colorado, was born during the Great Depression in Port Arthur, TX to Sara Inez Parrott Bailey and Orville Manley Bailey. He died on August 21st, 2025 at the age of 98.
Jerry lived a life of resilience, determination, and discipline - all with a sense of humor and lifestyle that has inspired everyone around him. He carried a spirit of optimism and innovation that shaped every chapter of his journey.
Jerry enlisted in the Navy as a teenager in 1944, dedicating himself to his country through WWII and beyond. His time aboard the USS South Dakota, USS Springfield, and USS Astoria brought him face-to-face with history, as he bore witness to the Japanese surrender ceremonies.
After earning his degree in Petroleum Geology from Texas Tech University in 1950, Jerry built a career in the oil and gas industry, initially working for Texaco before starting his own business as an independent geologist. He used his keen intellect and shrewd investment skills to navigate an ever-changing world. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
In 1952, he married Lolita Jones after she "swept me off my feet", sharing 54 years of good times and hard times, while also raising two daughters together. Through life's triumphs and challenges, including Lolita's battles with breast cancer and ALS, he remained pragmatic and steadfast, embodying true devotion.
A man of many talents, he could "cut a rug" to the big bands of his era and loved to sing along with Nat King Cole. His laughter and wit made people laugh along with him.
Jerry is survived by his daughter, Janice Richardson; granddaughter, Carisa Duenas; and great-grandson, Zachary Eames. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lolita Bailey, and daughter, Gail Bailey.
A Celebration of Life for Jerry will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary (7777 West 29th Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033) where Military Honors will be rendered. He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Fort Logan National Cemetery beside Lolita, reunited in eternal peace.
Jerry Bailey's legacy is one of strength, discipline, devotion, and service - an example to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His laughter, wisdom, and indomitable spirit will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
