Gilbert Lyons

Gilbert Lyons passed peacefully on May 21, 2025. Son of Irvin and Pearl Lyons, Gilbert was born and raised in Camden, Arkansas. He was brother to Irvin, Sylvia, and Olivia. He was married to the love of his life, Marge Lyons, for 60 years until her passing in 2016. Gilbert and Marge spent the majority of their lives together in the Broomfield/Arvada area in Colorado. He was loving father to Shane Lyons (Jeanette) and Faune Lyons and a beloved grandfather to Daniel Ratschkowsky (Meredith), Justin Lyons, and Chandler Lyons.

Gilbert worked at IBM his entire career until his retirement. True to his work ethic and love of keeping busy, he then worked at H&R Block as a tax preparer and as a banker at Elitch Gardens until the age of 90, often expressing that the students coming to the park on field trips were some of his favorite days.

Gilbert found tremendous peace and joy in his faith and the community of Broomfield United Methodist Church. You could often hear him singing loudest during worship and he enjoyed many years of fellowship in the men’s Bible study on Saturday mornings. He had a sharp mind and played Sudoku or completed crossword puzzles most mornings, even into his 90's.

Gilbert was a loyalist in every sense of the word. This was often evidenced by his devotion to the Arkansas Razorbacks and all Colorado sports teams. He was a season ticket holder to the Denver Nuggets for 40 years and witnessed firsthand their Championship win in 2023.

His family takes great solace in the legacy he and Marge leave behind.

A Celebration of Gilbert’s Life will be held on Monday, June 2nd at Olinger Crown Hill Cemetery in Wheat Ridge, CO (7777 W 29th Ave). Visitation from 12-1pm; formal service beginning at 1pm. He will be laid to rest following the service at 2pm.

In true Gilbert fashion, we encourage those in attendance to dress casually and wear jerseys or colors of Gilbert’s favorite sports teams: Arkansas Razorbacks (red and white), Denver Nuggets (blue and yellow), and the Denver Broncos (blue and orange).
