Lupe was born to Luz and Catherine Carpio on August 13, 1952, the youngest of 8 children. When she was 5 years old she was enrolled in the Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind where she completed all of her education from kindergarten through the 12th grade and graduated in 1972.
As an adult, Lupe settled in Denver working in the dark room at Swedish Hospital developing X-rays. In 1982 she married her beloved husband, Michael, to whom she was married until his death in 2006. In 1985, Lupe and Mike welcomed their only child, Amber.
Later in her life Lupe owned and operated a cafe with Michael, called "Mama Lupe’s", in the Denver Federal Center. Along with a successful career, she found joy in working with children and teaching them about braille, often volunteering at child care centers.
Lupe is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings: Ralph, Lucy, Manuel, Frank, and Mercy.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Amber and Joey Trujillo; her grandchildren Janet (David), Brianna, and Isaac; great-grandson, Malakai; sister, Mary Garcia; brother, Joseph Carpio (Isabelle); many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly; and life long friends, Marlene Kaiser and Marvella Fresquez.
A Memorial Service with Reception will be held at Altitude Church (6550 Wadsworth Blvd, Arvada, CO 80003) on April 11, 2026, beginning at 2:00 pm.
