Howard Lloyd Cummings passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2024. It is a comfort to his family to know Howard is no longer suffering physically and is with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and also with his sweetheart, Margie.
Howard attended Central Bible Institute in Springfield, Missouri and North Central Bible Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He sang in the Revivaltime Choir while at CBI and was in a traveling quartet called Mission-Aires while preparing to be a pastor at NCBI. Howard later completed his degree at Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU), now Nelson University. And while living in Minneapolis, he met a beautiful girl attending Minnehaha Academy named Margie, fell in love, and married her on June 24, 1955.
Howard and Margie Cummings were ministers of the Gospel the entire 69 years they were married. Their pastorates were in Newcastle, Wyoming (when he also led the youth ministries of the Wyoming District of the Assemblies of God for a time); Huron, South Dakota; then Aurora, Colorado (when he also served for a time on the Assemblies of God Foreign Missions Board). Also, over five decades, Howard and Margie ministered to numerous missionary couples and countless believers in dozens of countries around the world.
Howard was born to James and Grace Cummings in Friend, Nebraska on October 24, 1934. His younger sisters, Wanema Wieczorek and Joyce Swagger, both reside in South Dakota and grieve his passing. Howard’s daughters Cathy Miller and her husband Kevin of Aurora, Colorado, and Christi Guynes and her husband Del of Red Oak, Texas, as well as six grandchildren, Derek (Lacy) Guynes, Lindsay (Peter) Piñon, Lauren (David) Belt, Travis (Rebecca) Miller, Devan (Corey) Webb, and Alexis (Austin) Young along with 17 great-grandchildren survive Howard’s passing.
Howard Cummings was an incredibly devoted husband, father, grandfather, and papa great. He also carried a burden for others to know his Jesus as Lord both here in the States and around the world. Howard’s vision for world missions was something he unceasingly exhorted to each congregation he and Margie pastored, eventually seeing hundreds of missionaries joyously welcomed and supported financially at their last pastorate in Aurora.
The Celebration of Life service honoring Howard will be held Thursday, October 24 at 10:00 a.m. at Tower Community Fellowship, 1800 S Tower Rd, Aurora, CO 80013. The service will be livestreamed at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCigGb6pH1tw7jj_7-tvv33Q The family would be honored if you are able to join the family in person or online in honoring Howard and the life he lived.
