Iola M Evenson

Iola M. (nee Ike). Died peacefully on November 19, 2010, at the age of 96. Wife of the late James O. Evenson. Loving mother of Eric T. Evenson, daughter-in-law Debra, and former daughter-in-law Barbara. Devoted grandmother of Thor, Kirsten, and Heidi. She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Ida Ike, and sisters Myrtle and Caspara. Born in Spring Grove MN on July 20, 1914. 18 year resident of The Villas of Sunny Acres Retirement Home, Denver CO. Iola had a very full life beginning as a church organist at 16. In the 1950s and 60s, she had two local television shows for children in the Midwest - "Words & Music with Iola" and "The Iola Show". At the age of 53, she went back to college, graduating in 1970 from Luther College with a BA in elementary education. She taught Kindergarten in the Denver area for 6 years. She was twice runner up in the Miss Senior Denver pageant. "The sound of music and the laughter of little children"; brought the most joy and meaning to her life. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 14th, 11:00am, at Sunny Acres, 2501 East 104th Ave, Denver CO 80233. Memorials may be made to Luther College, 700 College Drive, Decorah IA 52101.
