

Jack Zeiler was born on April 23, 1932 in Denver, Colorado. His parents were Jacob Zeiler and Martha (Stroh) Zeiler. Both were of German-Russian ancestry. Jack was raised in North Denver, graduating from North High School in 1950. He graduated number one in his class with a straight “A” average. He also lettered in football and track at high school. Upon graduation, he received a scholarship to Princeton University where he majored in Civil Engineering, graduating magna cum laude in 1954. He was then accepted in the Naval Officer’s Candidate School, graduating in 1955 as an Ensign in the Civil Engineering Corps. He then served three years with Seabee units in Kodiak, Alaska and Kwajalein in the South Pacific. After discharge from the Navy, he enrolled in Stanford University where he received a full scholarship to study Structural Engineering graduating in 1958 with a Master’s Degree.
He worked for consulting structural engineers in San Francisco and Denver before starting his own firm in 1964. The firm specialized in architectural and structural design of industrial and commercial buildings. Jack was a registered Professional Engineer in Colorado and several other states including California and Illinois. He was a member of the Consulting Engineers Council, American Concrete Institute, Structural Engineers of Colorado, American Steel Institute and American Historical Society of Germans from Russia. He retired from the firm “Zeiler-Pennock, Inc.” in 1999.
In 1957 Jack married Louetta Kenney. They had four daughters. In 1990, they divorced. Later, Jack married Joyce Hodges in 1996. Joyce has three children and between them they have 15 grandchildren. Joyce and Jack enjoy retirement, fishing, hiking, biking, skiing, and traveling to all parts of the world.
Jack was predeceased by his father, mother, sister Marjorie, and brother Robert. He is survived by his wife Joyce, daughters Jeanne Fielding (Tom), Julie Maple (Mike), Jackie Poe, and Joni Bretz. Also stepchildren Sha Lesser (Robert), James Kvaal (Kim), Darren Kvaal (Chris), 15 grandchildren, 2 great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
Services will be held on Saturday, January 28 at 1:30 pm at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary with burial to follow.
