Jim Martin of Westminster, Colorado was called to be with the Lord on July 15, 2016. Jim was born in Mountville, Pennsylvania on September 23, 1937 to the late Robert and Bernice Martin. Jim attended Mountville Elementary and East Hempfield High School in Pennsylvania. After high school, in 1959 and 1960, he completed two years of Alternative Service at Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital in Denver, Colorado. His freshman year for college, 1961-1962, took him to Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota, then back to Denver, Colorado to earn his Bachelor Degree in Business. Later on, Jim attended The University of Denver and worked toward a Master’s in Business Administration. He began working for Gates Rubber Company in Denver, worked on real-estate investments, and soon after founded Parts International.
During this time in Denver, Jim lived with three other roommates: Hersh, Springer and Baker. These guys had a good time attending church, skiing, and going to social activities. Each person took their turn cooking for a week each month. Jim taught them how to make meatloaf so consequently, the guys ate lots and lots of meatloaf! Many stories can be told of The Steele Street Gang!
Jim married Sara Dixon in August of 1971. Their daughter, Sara Beth was born in 1975 followed by James Robert III in 1978. After a mission trip to Romania, this family decided to adopt Larisa in 2000. Jim lived out his life being a beloved husband and father.
Jim is survived by his wife, Sara, his children Sara Beth and son in-law Matt, James and daughter in-law Sara, Larisa, and his seven grandchildren: Jack, Noah, Lily, Sam, Grace, Graham, and Alexander.
Jim taught the kids how to drive, discussed the latest news with them, taught them how to eat potato chips with ice cream, and addicted everyone he knew with Tasty Cakes. He enjoyed skiing, sailing, tennis, soccer, reading, traveling, and pretty much everything life had to offer including The Denver Broncos! To his children, their spouses, his wife, his grandchildren, and his many friends, he leaves a wonderful legacy. Jim was generous to those in need, patient, had a great sense of humor, and was such a kind and gentle man. He will be greatly missed!
