James "Jim" Joel Smith

Jim was born in Great Bend, Kansas on August 13, 1930 to parents Frank and Ethelena Smith.

Jim served in the AMEDS - USAR during the Korean War and received his Honorable Discharge from Fort Sam Houston, Texas on October 29, 1959. Jim was employed by Waukesha/PAMCO from 1960 to 1987.

Jim met and fell in love with Shirley May Wright in Great Bend and the two were married on June 23, 1957. They raised two children, son David and daughter Anita. They were also blessed with two grandsons, Justin and Brandon. The family moved to Denver, Colorado in 1965 and were longtime members of Trinity Presbyterian Church.

Jim’s family, especially his grandsons, were his pride and joy. He and Shirley enjoyed many memorable travels and ocean cruises during their retirement years.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife of over 63 years, Shirley. Also by his parents, Frank and Ethelena, brother Roland and sister Bernice. Jim is survived by son David, daughter Anita, grandsons Justin and Brandon and brothers Frank Jr. and Bert. Also numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim’s funeral service, officiated by Pastor John Anderson, will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, July 5th at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 7755 Vance Drive, Arvada, CO 80003. Jim and Shirley will be interred together in their final resting place at Fort Logan National Cemetery later this summer.
