Janice Byers

Janice A. Byers, age 78, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2019 in Colorado, where she, her husband, all three sons and their families live. Born on February 24, 1941 in Michigan, Jan grew up in Delphi, Indiana. Daughter to Clyde and Barbara Buchanan, and sister to Claudia and brother Bud who preceded her in passing. She graduated Delphi High School class of 1958. She met her husband, Robert H. Byers, in 1963 and they quickly eloped on December 6 of that same year in Carmel, Indiana.

Bob’s career took them from Indiana throughout the country, along the way Jan made life-long friends, both young and old, that she cherished. She had different jobs throughout her life including stewardess, office work, and florist. However her priority was always her family. Jan was a very involved grandma and was affectionately known as “Mamaw” by her eight grandchildren. From reading them books, telling jokes, cooking their favorite breakfast rolls or helping with a skinned knee, she was supportive, and always there.

We can lovingly picture her playing with the grandkids, or on the couch with a good book, or occasionally in front of a slot machine with a fist-full of quarters, or enjoying a rare margarita. She enjoyed traveling and visited all 50 states. However, she will be remembered, loved and deeply missed for being a caring cornerstone of the family.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Bob; sons: Rob Byers and spouse Krista, Tim Byers and spouse Megan McGhee, and Casey Byers and spouse Lori; eight grandchildren, Keegan, Evan, Zoe, Owen, Camden, Eli, Audrey, and Carter; sister, Claudia Sargent; two nieces, and one nephew.

At this time the family is planning to have a memorial open house in August, and will provide details, as they are available.
