Jesse Bryant Carraway, Jr. of Golden, Colorado, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 20th at the Lutheran Hospice Collier Center. He was born June 25, 1921 in Memphis, Tennessee. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Lorian; children: Jesse Bryant Carraway III and Jan Chavez, his five step children, Van Bullock, Cindy Flowers, Lindy Schossow, Mindy Costanzo, Alan Bullock, and respectively their families, including 19 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren.
His parent’s Jesse Bryant Sr. and Annie Lee Carraway preceded him in death.
Jesse attended Humes High School and went on to complete two years of college. His college days were interrupted as World War II broke out in 1942. Jesse immediately enlisted in the Army Air Force as a Cadet. He climbed the ranks quickly going from Corporal to 2nd Lt., and on to being a Flight Instructor of B-24’s and B-29’s. As he was preparing to be sent over-seas, the Commanding Officer entered the Ready Room and announced, “Gentleman, President Truman has just announced the war is over.” He stayed in the Reserve Force for one more year.
Jesse was an intelligent man who worked his way through his career from a “Mail Boy” at the Ford Motor Company, to a very successful Ford and Honda Automobile Dealer. In his spare time he enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling, and time with family.
We thank God for the gift of this wonderful Husband, Father, and Grandfather!
