

John Michael Hackett was born on January 26, 1951 in Medford, Oregon to Charles and Jacqueline Hackett. He was a proud big brother to six brothers and four sisters. He was raised by his grandparents, Clement and Lenore Joyer. He participated in the Army ROTC at the University of Oregon in Eugene, graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Anthropology. In 1973, John was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Military Police branch of the Army. While serving as Provost Marshall in South Korea, John met the love of his life Chong and they married in 1977. They had two daughters, Charleen and Marsha. After serving 11 years in the military, John joined the Federal Emergency Management Agency as an Operations Specialist. John found joy traveling throughout the country, responding to disasters, meeting new people, and giving them the help they need. He retired from FEMA in 2012, and he and Chong began their many adventures through North America and Europe. He also enjoyed his volunteer time at the Heritage Lakewood Museum where he gave tours. His proudest achievement was being father to his daughters and grandpa to his grandchildren, Joseph, Sophia, and Henry. He will be forever in our hearts.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, and his brothers, Joseph and Jerry. He is survived by his wife Chong; daughters, Charleen (Chris) and Marsha (Jeremy); grandchildren, Joseph, Sophia, and Henry; and his siblings, Wayne (Sherri), Mary, David, Margaret (Toni), Marlene (Tony), Michael (Val), Theresa, and Stephen.
