He was preceded in death by his Mom Rebecca (Becky), both maternal Grandparents, Margarita and Modesto Garcia, his paternal Grandfather Filadelfio Duran, his Godfather Louis Garcia, Aunt, Uncles and numerous friends, both military and non-military.
He is survived by his fiancé Tanya Garrison. His father Johnny “Mike” and Step-Mom Elizabeth Duran. His Sister Alicia and Brother Jeremy Friess. Johnny grew up in Commerce City most of his life. He lived in a lot of places, but Commerce City was home. He graduated from Adams City High School in 1996. In 1997 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was one of the lucky, first and few platoons to graduate boot camp on the 4th of July. He was stationed at the Marine Corps Base in 29 Palms California and served for 8 years. He was honorably discharged and as he said, “Once a Marine, always a Marine.” Semper Fi. When he came home, he threw himself into his education and took as many college courses as he could. He said he knew a lot of useless knowledge and he was Google before there was Google. Over the next and last years of his life he stayed close to his family. After his mom left, he followed his Dad out to North Dakota. He traveled back and forth to Colorado but always went back to be by his Dad. He was a music connoisseur, book reader, loved sports, liked the family part of hunting, could quote movie and TV lines like no other, was a woodworker, loved paracord crafting and crafting in general. We found many projects that he had started. There are so many more things to write or say about Johnny but as his Godson says, “How do you sum up someone who is one of a kind, unique and irreplaceable?” You don’t.
He will live on in memories from all who knew him and in that way, he will never be forgotten. He loved hard, was generous and fought until the end. In true Johnny fashion, he took a detour to get home and be laid to rest.
Services will be Tuesday March 28th, 2023. Details to follow.
