

Joyce Charlene Aasby, passed away peacefully at her home in Lochbuie, CO on June 5, 2022, at the age of 82. She was surrounded by her family who supported her as she courageously battled Pulmonary Fibrosis for the last seven months. Throughout her illness she maintained a positive attitude and enjoyed the time she was able to spend with family and friends.
Joyce C. (Bonnichsen) Aasby was born November 7, 1939, in Highmore, SD to Anton and Clara (Ruggenberg) Bonnichsen. She and her father moved to Fergus Falls, MN where she was very active in 4H, showing dairy cattle and horses. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Fergus Falls, before moving back to Highmore where she worked at the bank as well as helped her mother run Clara’s Hi-Way Café. She then met the love of her life Eldon Aasby and they married on June 18, 1961. Eldon’s employment then moved their family to Colorado in 1964 where Lochbuie became their home. She worked at Jefferson County bank, First Bank of Brighton (later Wells Fargo). She then took employment as the second Town Clerk of Lochbuie, before working at United Power and retiring in 2008. During retirement she enjoyed watching her Grandchildren and working at the snack bar at The Wild Animal Sanctuary near Keenesburg. She and her husband were one of the founding members of The South Weld Lions Club in 1977. She was active in, The Red Hatters, The Book Club, and After Glows Senior Center. She enjoyed researching Genealogy and had a passion for sewing and quilting. She served at Mt Calvary Lutheran Church as Financial Secretary, Altar Guild, and LWML. She was known for her humble and helpful spirit and was extremely generous with giving her time to others. She was a master baker and gardener and never judged anyone. She was known for her delicious pumpkin bars and caramel rolls in the surrounding three counties. She was also known by her Grandchildren for her strawberry rhubarb jelly and ample supply of Schwan’s ice cream.
She is survived by her three daughters Donna Aasby Lochbuie, CO, Roxane (Troy) Stewart Brighton, CO,
Tammy (Bud) Holman Keenesburg, CO. Grandchildren Eric (Lindsay) Stewart, Sara (Keenan) Stevens, Dustin Wroblewski, and Kate Holman. Greatgrandchildren Colton & Caleb Stewart and Nora Stevens, A ½ sister Bonnie Hintermeister (Bonnichsen) and sister-in-law Lucy (Al) Sarmiento, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is proceeded in death by her parents, husband Eldon Aasby, brother Martin Bonnichsen, and Grandson Nick Aasby.
Services will be at 11:00am Saturday June 11, 2022, at Mt Calvary Lutheran Church, 650 S Park Ave Ft Lupton, CO with viewing at 10:30am and reception to follow. She will be laid to rest at 3:00pm at Olinger Crown Hill Cemetery, 7777 W 29th Ave Wheat Ridge. CO
