Kenneth Hjelmstad

Kenneth Lowell Hjelmstad was born on July 11, 1952, in Denver, Colorado at St. Luke's Hospital. Ken was the third child of Harold and Doris Hjelmstad, joining two sisters, Shirley and Sharon, and was the older brother of Rick. Ken attended school in Wheat Ridge, Colorado and graduated from Wheat Ridge High School in 1970. He attended Hesston College and the moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, in the fall of 1971. Ken was baptized at age 14 at Glennon Heights Mennonite Church.

Ken attended both the University of New Mexico and electronics school and received his accreditation for his MCSE. He worked for the PBS station and at KUNM radio station as the chief engineer. He worked at Fox TV station in here in Denver for five years.

Ken was married in December 1978 to Linda Cuba and became step-father to both Carmen and Natasha. He was preceded in death by his father Harold Hjelmstad, step-daughter Natasha, his nephew Troy Hostetler, and his niece Tammy Hostetler. He is survived by his mother Doris Hjelmstad, sister Hostetler, (and her grandsons Caden and Carson Byers); sister, Sharon Marner, husband Gary, and their two sons Chris Marner, (and his daughters Natalie and Olivia), and Jason Marner, wife Kelly; brother Rick Hjelmstad, wife Denise. He is also survived by his step-daughter Carmen Cuba, husband John Brown, and two grandchildren, Roman and Carlos Brown, who were the joy of Ken's life; and many other loving family and friends.

Ken had a massive stroke on January 16, 2012. He spent time in both Lutheran and St. Anthony Hospitals, and then was transfered to Bethany Rehabilitation where he resided until he passed away on May 16, 2012. Ken received extremely professional and loving health care form the team at Bethany Rehabilitation.

Ken enjoyed traveling, music, playing guitar, good food and fishing. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. Ken's favorite destination for travel was Mexico, which he visited quite often. He thoroughly enjoyed singing in the choir. Ken was loved by many and will be sorely missed.
