Her family moved to Lyons, Colorado when she was 3 years old. She talked about how poor their family was, but they never seemed to lack the basics. Her family moved to Boulder when she was in High School. She graduated from Boulder High School in 1945. She worked at and graduated from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts, Interior Design. In 1947, while studying at CU, she met her future husband, Glenn Hall from Dallas, Texas. Glenn was enlisted in the Navy at that time and was taking radio classes at CU. They were married on October 9, 1948.
Glenn was honorably discharged from the Navy after the end of World War II. After they married, Louise and Glenn both worked for the United States Geological Service in Lakewood, Colorado. Louise worked there until 1956. She quit working outside of the home in 1956, but was a housewife and mother of her 2 children for the next 20 years. She sewed most of her children’s clothes, and created beautiful rock gardens with plants of all types. She had the proverbial green thumb. She grew fruits and vegetables in the back yard. She enjoyed bowling with the neighborhood women, camping and hiking in the Rocky Mountains and crafts of all types.
In 1972, Louise and her family moved to Virginia when Glenn was transferred with the USGS. Once her children were in college, she returned to work with the USGS in 1977. After Glenn retired, she considered herself extremely lucky to be transferred by USGS back to Lakewood, CO in the mid 1980’s. She was fascinated by all the history in Virginia but loved Colorado much more. Louise retired from USGS in 1997. She loved her job and loved to be productive and wished she could work longer. They gave her an excellent buyout to retire at that time – an “offer she could not refuse”. Reluctantly she retired and kept busy with her house, garden and family. Glenn passed away on April 11, 2011.
Family was the most important thing in her life. She loved to have big holiday celebrations, especially Christmas. Her home was always a place where family was welcome to gather and share a meal. Her home was also a place where family was welcome to live if work, school or other circumstances made it beneficial or more convenient to live in Lakewood.
Although she was born in North Carolina, she considered Colorado to be her home. She loved family, plants, animals and the Rocky Mountains. She lived life to the fullest as long as she could. Due to medical conditions, she lost her hearing, her eye sight and finally in the last year her ability to walk. It was time for her to leave this earth on May 26, 2019 and be with God and her family in heaven. She will be missed greatly.
She is survived by her son, Gregory Glenn Hall of Allenspark, CO; her daughter, Cynthia Lee Criddle of Lakewood, CO; her grandchildren: Randall David Hall of Bremerton, WA, Olivia Kathleen Hall of San Diego, CA, Russell Gregory Hall of Bremerton, WA, Jacob Timothy Hall of Bremerton WA and sister-in-law, Mary Charles Hall of Dallas, TX.
