Lucille was born in Conroy, Iowa to Menno Greenfield and Esther Kelly. They moved to Holyoke, Colorado in 1930. She attended Holyoke High School where she was a cheerleader, played in the band, and sang in the choir. Immediately following graduation, Lucille moved to Denver where she began working as a switchboard operator. She soon found another calling managing the fountain and lunch counter at a local bowling alley. Here she became famous for her delicious pies, bringing people from all over to purchase them. This is where she met Daryl Cook. They married May 1, 1947 and enjoyed a wonderful 40 year marriage until his death in 1987.
Daryl and Lucille moved to Helena, MT in 1950 to follow Daryl's career with Mountain Bell. During this time Lucille also worked for the Telephone Company in Helena until their daughter, Mitzie, was born in 1957.
In 1960, the family returned to Colorado. Upon returning, Lucille did not plan to work but was talked into working for her brother-in-law, an Orthodontist in downtown Denver. While this was to be temporary, it lasted over 16 years as she loved working with the kids.
Lucille always kept busy. She loved golfing, bowling, and playing cards. Her most cherished accomplishment was her 33 years of volunteering at the Arvada Food Bank (now the Community Table Food Bank). She met wonderful people and made numerous close friendships that lasted until her death. For her unwavering volunteerism, she was awarded The President’s Call To Service Award and featured as a 7 Everyday Hero.
Lucille is survived by her daughter Mitzie Donaldson, grandsons Corey Donaldson and Eric Donaldson (Faith), nieces Teri Ralston and Doris Maas, and great nieces Amy, Heidi, Reed and Cindy. She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, three sisters, and her son-in-law Rob Donaldson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be directed to the Community Table Food Bank in Arvada, CO.
