

Maxine “Maxie” Charlotte Hughes, 77, of Denver, Colorado, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2026, in Denver, Colorado, due to complications from cancer. Born October 7, 1948, in Denver, Maxine will be remembered as a devoted and loving presence in the lives of those who knew her.
Maxie was the daughter of Victor Vigil (Mary) and Geneva Garcia (Don). She grew up alongside her siblings Irene Colburn, Lorraine Newsom, and Mike Vigil, and she maintained a lifelong friendship with Trisha Woods.
A proud graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School in Denver, Colorado, Maxie built a working life marked by dedication and adaptability. She held roles as a title insurance manager, a poker dealer, and a dog groomer—each reflecting her steady work ethic and willingness to meet life with practicality and determination.
Maxie made her home in Denver, Colorado. She especially loved her dogs, Roxy and Vinnie, and found simple joy in trips to the “junk store,” where she delighted in the small discoveries that made ordinary days brighter.
Maxie is survived by her children, Felix LaFore (Candice LaFore) and Duke LaFore; her grandchildren, Erika LaFore, Madison LaFore, and Izetta LaFore; and her niece, Lana Eaton. She is also survived by her siblings Lorraine Newsom and Mike Vigil.
Maxie was preceded in death by her father, Victor Vigil; her mother, Geneva Garcia; her spouse, RIchard Hughes; and her sibling Irene Colburn.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary & Cem, 7777 West 29th Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033.
A Reception will follow on Friday, March 6, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary & Cemetery, 7777 West 29th Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033.
