Melvin William Gramm, 86, of Lakewood, CO, passed away October 4, 2024 at home surrounded by loved ones. Melvin was born in Weldona, CO on October 24, 1937 to Chris and Mabel (Wise) Gramm. His growing up years were spent in Arvada, CO and Bethune, CO where his cousin, Edmond, grilled him with math and spelling to and from the one room school house Melvin attended during his formative years. He graduated from Bethune High School and following was drafted into the US Army. He was so proud to have chauffeured Generals and other high ranking officials during his time of service.
During this time, he married Alice Knodel and they adopted a daughter, Lisa. Mel worked for Gates Rubber Company after the military and went on to manage Tiny Town, before finishing his career off as a School Bus Driver for Jefferson County. Alice passed away and Mel married Connie Burgette. Connie also passed and Mel reconnected with Pat Hansen, whom was a friend from the days in the Army. They were married August 4, 2007 and enjoyed traveling, doing disaster relief work and being involved in the Green Mountain Christian Church in Lakewood, CO.
He was preceded in death by parents, Chris and Mabel (Wise) Gramm and sister Helen Marak and wives, Alice and Connie.
Mel is survived by his wife, Patricia, adopted daughter, Lisa, stepsons James Carley (Ranee) of Tennessee and Patrick (Janice) Hansen of Colorado Springs, CO, extended family grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves to delight in his memory, sisters, Clara Gold of Simi Valley, CA, Esther Rone of Arvada, CO and brother Larry (Sue) of Killean, TX.
Mel’s legacy is one of always having a smile! When we see a “tip jar” we will think of the multiple times he requested we leave something in “his” tip jar! We fondly recall him saying, when times were challenging, “it is what it is!” He approached life with that attitude and conveyed it to those around him. Thank you, Mel, for leaving a bit of you with each of us.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Green Mountain Christian Church.
