

Meridith Ann Rumble Jones was born April 7, 1933 to Robert and Helen Rumble in Denver, CO. She was always proud that she held the distinction of being a 4th generation Colorado native. The eldest of three children, she was a wonderful big sister to Carolyn and Robbyn. Meridith attended Rosedale Elementary, Byers Junior High and graduated from South High School in 1951. Meridith’s childhood interests included chaperoning her sisters on trolley-ride excursions to the Colorado History Museum, the State Capitol and window shopping in downtown Denver. She learned to cook, garden and care for a home as a young girl. She began sewing in high school and made many wardrobe items and several prom dresses. The Rumble family were active members of John Collins Methodist Church.
Meridith met David at Byers Junior High school; because he was a relentless tease, her initial interest in him was minimal at best! David was persistent in his three-year pursuit of Meridith, finally convincing her to come to his home to see his baby bunny rabbit. That invitation was the beginning of a loving relationship that would last for over seventy years. David and Meridith began dating their senior year of high school and continued while attending Colorado A & M (CSU). While attending college, Meridith was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. Following their engagement in 1952, Meridith attended college for an additional year before beginning a full-time job in the accounting department at Mountain Bell. After planning and saving money for their wedding, Meridith and David were married June 12, 1954 at First Plymouth Congregational Church.
Meridith and David bought their home at 1250 South Eudora Street in 1957. They welcomed four children over the next seven years to their family; Cindy, Kathy, Mike and Susan. David built many additions to their home as their family expanded. The Jones family were dedicated, faithful members of the Kirk of Bonnie Brae for many years. Meridith was a committed PTA member, Girl and Boy Scout leader and member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, a philanthropic sorority. She was an efficient and thrifty homemaker and decorated their home with care and pride. A clever and artistic crafter, Meridith created many unique and decorative items for their home and as gifts. She prepared countless delicious, healthy meals for her family and sewed numerous costumes and clothes including formal and wedding attire, for David, herself and their children. Their family life included many annual summer vacations tent camping and later, travel with their 20’ Kenskill travel trailer. They traveled about 25,000 miles over the course of several summers. Meridith kept detailed dairies of all of their travels. Throughout her life, she enjoyed music and theater, gardening, reading, caring for their numerous family pets, completing the daily crossword puzzle and most recently, connecting with friends and family through Facebook.
Meridith and David purchased the Marble General Store and property for a home in Marble, CO in 1977, becoming well-liked and energetic members of this small mountain community and the Marble Community Church. They later bought additional property and installed MeriDaes RV Park. Meridith and David sold the store and trailer park in 2007 after operating them for 30 years.
Meridith and David enjoyed many adventurous travel opportunities that included several cruises and international travel. Together they visited all 50 states and 33 countries. Meridith and David were involved and contributing members of Prince of Peace and most recently Cross of Glory Lutheran Church. Meridith held many positions of leadership in all of her church homes, she was a respected and influential leader.
Meridith and David loved people and amassed many treasured friendships throughout their life together. Meridith was a delightful, engaging hostess and welcomed friends and family for numerous parties and get-togethers at their homes in Denver and Marble.
Meridith’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She reveled in her roles of sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother of 13 and great grandmother to 3. She cherished time with family and friends and was always seated in the middle of the large dining room table so she could participate in conversations with all. Meridith lived a long, faithful life full of blessings, rich life experiences, great love and joyful laughter.
Meridith is survived by David, her husband of 67 years, her children and their spouses, Cindy and Jeff, Kathy and Dennis, Mike, Susan and John. Her daughter-in-law Jane and sister Carolyn preceded her in death. Referred to as Nana, she is survived by her grandchildren Katherine, Mike, Dan, Megan, Eric, Ryan, Jessica, Chris, Evan, Madeline, Ashleigh, Trevor and Garrett and great grandchildren Evie, Phoebe and Decker. She is also survived by her sister Robbyn and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
