Merrelyn was both of my kids’ third grade teacher at Peiffer. We loved her dearly.  Her sense of humor and practical nature made such a difference to our family. I’m so sorry to hear this news.

    Our heartfelt condolences on the loss of Merrelyn. She was funny and smart and sassy and kind, and we have so much admiration for the resilience and strength she’s shown over the years.  Her love for her boys was profound and enabled her to overcome the unimaginable. 
   What a  sad and strange surprise so see her obituary here on the Crown Hill website with my mother’s,  even though Nat had shared the sad news. The family pictures you’ve uploaded are wonderful and bring back so many happy memories of golfing  and lunches with Cherre and Merrelyn and the happy family celebrations we shared in.                     
    I hope the memories of your special times together and thought of her spirt reunited and soaring with Bradd and Cherre and Ross  brings you comfort.

Not often does a friend, a real friend, come into your life.  One you have known for sixty three years. With life twists and turns and busy days, forever friends stay connected.  That was Merrelyn.
 A women of strength, beauty and courage, she was inspirational, giving and thoughtful to everyone.  My days were brighter by phone calls or get togethers . Her infectious laugh, bright smile and conversations were a highlight. Her devotion and love of family was exceptional and the stories of her grandchildren were heartwarming. It is with sadness I write this, We have all lost a truly remarkable buddy. Her contribution to each one of our lives will have a lasting affect. Her heart was as big and giving as  the sky, it was just not strong enough for all the love it held .  She will always be my forever friend.  

I met Merrelyn at South High but we became close friends decades later when my husband and I came to Denver to live during the winters.
I already miss my dear friend as I contemplate the things we will no longer be able to share.
She and I both loved movies and books and good conversation.  We tried to see all the movies we could before Oscar night.  I will miss turning to her at the Mayan and simultaneously saying, "now that was really strange!"
I will miss the trip to the Willa Cather Museum and birthplace we had planned for next year and the family history research we won't be doing together and the meal we would have shared after.
I missed her last night when Dale and I settled in to watch King of Queens reruns - a favorite of both Merrelyn and ours.  I forgot for a minute this week that she was no longer there to receive my text about a book she might like.  I will no longer get one from her either.  
I loved her wry sense of humor.  I seem to have a difficult time remembering some basic things about our high school experiences.  Merrelyn would top off my forgetfulness with feigned outrage, "and I suppose you don't remember that I was your best friend."
Merrelyn adored her family, soldiered on thru adversity many of us could not imagine and did so with a great heart, a love of learning and a strong appreciation for friendship.
Without a doubt though, Merrelyn's most enduring affect on me will be the memory of her tenacity and her ability to keep on going thru incredible adversity.  The next time, when I "don't feel like it" but fix myself up and "go anyway", I will be invoking her spirit. 
I have another friend, who also greatly values friendship.  She wrote me;

Merrelyn was a beautiful person inside and out.  I’ll always remember our conversations at family get togethers.  She was a wonderful mother in law and grandmother to my niece and great niece and great nephew.  Her family should take comfort in knowing she’s with her husband and the angels in heaven.   She will be greatly missed by all that had the opportunity to know her.
Rest In Peace sweet soul! 

 Merrelyn was our friend and mother-in-law to our daughter. Jennifer is married to Merrelyn's eldest son, Matt.  We became friends and enjoyed watching our children and grandchildren lives unfold, which meant everything to her. We hope to honor her memory through the coming years, We will miss her deeply.
