Nicolas Cain Johnson was born on January 29th, 1983, in Denver, Colorado to Bill and Denise Johnson. On June 7th, 1986, his beloved brother Joe was born.
Nick attended Silver State Baptist School from kindergarten through high school, where his mother taught for many years. During his junior high and high school years, Nick established himself as an outstanding athlete, earning a varsity letter in football all 4 years. He graduated in 2001 as Salutatorian of his class.
After high school, Nick attended the University of Colorado in Boulder. In June of 2002, a very serious motorcycle accident interfered with his education temporarily, and caused some injuries from which he never fully recovered. He made a valiant effort, however, and completed his education at Red Rocks Community College. He went on to work at several architectural firms, as well as pursuing his dream of being a "hands-on" landscape architect, and starting his own landscape company.
In 2014, Nick met Margaret Rose Ragona, and in June of 2016, their union was blessed with the birth of their beautiful daughter, Violet. Violet was the light of Nick's life, and he loved her with all his heart.
Nick loved the outdoors - especially trees and plants, which were his passion. He loved physical work, having his hands in the soil, and creating beauty with trees, shrubs, rocks, and flowers. He had a unique vision and gift when it came to bringing beauty out of the earth.
He was rough, tough, and brave. But he was also very kind, loving, and fiercely loyal. He suffered several devastating injuries during his short, beautiful life, but he always displayed amazing courage and joy throughout. His pain tolerance was unbelievable. He was one of the toughest men you would ever meet. Shaking his big, calloused hand told you who he was. Through everything, he was the ultimate prankster. He found humor in everything. He loved his family and friends deeply and loyally. He was sweet and generous.
On Saturday evening, December 12th, 2020, at the age of 37, Nick went to sleep and never woke up. He leaves behind his daughter Violet, Violet’s mother Margaret, his mother Denise, his father Bill, his brother Joe, his grandparents Bob and Joan Johnson, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He will be fondly remembered and profoundly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that a donation be made to the GoFundMe (link below) to help fund a Trust that is being created for Nick's daughter, the love of his life, Violet.
