February 5, 1934 – April 7, 2025
Peggy Harris, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2025, at the age of 91, after a brief illness. A woman of deep faith, joyful spirit, and warm heart, Peggy touched countless lives with her kindness, humor, and unwavering love for her family and community.
Peggy was born in 1934 in Martin, South Dakota, to Harold and LaVerne Pike. She was raised in Martin alongside her sister, Patty Davidson, who preceded her in death, as did her parents. In 1953, she married the love of her life, Charlie Harris. Together, they embarked on a lifelong adventure that began in Martin and took them to Aurora, Colorado in 1954, where they built a beautiful life and raised their three children: Brian, Lisa, and Karen.
Peggy worked as an Instructional Aide with Aurora Public Schools, a role she cherished for many years before retiring in 1993. She had a special gift for working with children and brought warmth and compassion into every classroom she entered.
Retirement for Peggy and Charlie meant more time for travel, laughter, and sunshine. They spent a decade enjoying the best of both worlds—splitting their time between their Colorado mountain home and Mesa, Arizona—before settling full-time in Arizona. Peggy embraced retirement with enthusiasm, finding joy in playing golf, creating stained glass, volunteering at the food bank through her church, Church of the Master, and serving as a devoted Deacon.
Peggy and Charlie eventually returned to Colorado and following Charlie’s passing, Peggy moved into Carmel Oaks—her self-declared "happy place." There, she continued to live life to the fullest, making friends, staying active, and never passing up a good game of shuffleboard, bingo, or Wii bowling. She loved crafts, social gatherings, and sipping on a margarita whenever the opportunity arose.
Peggy especially loved watching her granddaughters Allison and Amber grow and thrive—it brought her tremendous joy and pride. She is survived by her children: Brian Harris (Michelle) of Knoxville, TN; Lisa Berquist (Jon) of Wheat Ridge, CO; and Karen Aluise (Eric) of Highlands Ranch, CO. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Allison Elledge (Chris) and Amber Harris, as well as great-grandchildren Ethan, Emily, and Everette Elledge. Peggy was blessed with many more grandchildren through marriage, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
Peggy’s vibrant spirit, faith-filled heart, and loving presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy lives on in her family and the many friends whose lives she brightened.
A memorial service will be held in her honor at 10:00 a.m. on May 9. 2025, at Olinger Crown Hill, in the Pavilion of Reflection, followed by a reception. Burial will take place at Fort Logan National Cemetery at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Peggy’s memory to your local food bank or charity of your choice.
