Bob was born in Boise, Idaho, on October 5, 1946, and was raised in Golden, Colorado. Growing up in a large family with modest means helped shape the determination and work ethic that defined his life.
At a young age, Bob joined the United States Navy. Shortly after his time in the Navy, he met the love of his life, Linda. Together they built a life grounded in family, faith, and hard work.
Bob later founded Three Oaks, Inc., a landscaping and maintenance company he built through years of dedication and perseverance. Through his work he formed lasting friendships with employees, customers, and others in the community who respected both his work ethic and his character.
Bob and Linda welcomed their daughter, Shana, in 1970 and soon after purchased the Lakewood home where the family would build a lifetime of memories. Ten years later, their son Jeff was born. That home remained a gathering place for family throughout Bob’s life.
A man of strong faith, Bob was deeply involved in his church community with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he spent many years building friendships and serving others.
Bob was known by nearly everyone he met as someone who could strike up a conversation with anyone. He loved sharing jokes and laughter, and his dry, classic dad-style humor became one of his most recognizable traits. Those who knew him well will also remember his favorite playful claim that he was still “Sexy As Ever,” a phrase he shared often and always with a smile.
While he could be stubborn and competitive, those qualities were matched by his loyalty, generosity, and unwavering love for the people in his life. He believed strongly in earning what you received and passed that lesson on to his children. The one thing that never had to be earned, however, was his love.
After retiring, Bob enjoyed many of the simple things that brought him happiness: gardening, woodworking, coin and knife collecting, and playing games with family and friends. Family dinners and game nights became some of his most cherished traditions.
One of the greatest joys of his later years was becoming a grandfather. The arrival of his granddaughter, Harlie Quinn Axtell, brought him immense pride and happiness. He treasured the time he spent with her and loved taking small day trips and adventures with family.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; his daughter, Shana Sanborn, and her husband, Shawn; and his son, Jeff Axtell, and his wife, Ali DiLorenzo. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Harlie Quinn Axtell, and step-grandchildren, Freddie and Chloe Rivard. He is also survived by his sisters, Lucille and Louis, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mila Axtell, and his brothers, Tom, Russ, and Jim.
Bob’s humor, determination, and deep love for his family will be remembered always by those fortunate enough to know him.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 30, at 10:00 a.m. at Crown Hill Cemetery in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
