Roxie Leonard Sorrentino was born August 13, 1916, in Adams County, Colorado to Joseph and Geraldine Sorrentino.
He went through the eighth grade at school. He then helped out on the family farm and working odd jobs for other local farmers. He would say he worked all day for $2.00.
He started working at Gates Rubber Company around 1941, retiring in 1981. He ran the belt division. During WWII he made the coupling devices for the fuel line hoses that would fuel the war ships out to sea.
He lived in Arvada, Colorado for 50 plus years. He was an amazing gardener, growing corn, peas, peppers, lettuce, carrots, green beans, beets, onions, and the specialty was his wonderful, delicious, out-of-this-world pascal celery! It was a lot of work but it was worth every sore muscle we got! When they had to move from the Homestead in 2000, Roxie’s main request to Mike Baran, our realtor, was to have land for a garden and ditch water rights! Well, he got his wish. They found a beautiful home at here in Lakewood.
Surviving is his loving and dedicated wife of 54 years, Anna, son Ken, daughters, Linda (husband Mark) and Beverly. His daughter Nancy Lee preceded him in death in 1962. Last but not least, his 5 extra-special grandchildren - Tony, Cindy, Brittany, Adam, and Leah. They were the light of his life! Of course they could not do anything wrong! Papa Roxie always made sure Grandma made a big dinner on Monday night so the grandkids would come over and watch wrestling with him! Then, even after that huge dinner, they would eat popcorn! They all had a great night together. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors.
The family wishes to thank all of you for coming to this closing of another Sorrentino Chapter that has brightened so many lives. Roxie would do anything for anybody, from getting his tractor out on a cold, snowy winter day to plow the snow from neighbors driveways to giving out free vegetables from his garden in the summer.
So, Good-Bye – Roxie, Honey, Daddy, Papa, and Uncle Rox! We love and miss you with all our hearts! As you told mom a couple hours before your passing, please remember all the good times we had together. So we hope everybody will do just that.
God Bless All of You.
