Sandy Murphy was born in San Angelo, Texas on November 11, 1939 to Woodrow Good and Veita Kathryne Good. In 1948, her brother Gary was born in San Angelo, Texas. While her parents worked at the drive-in theater, she spent a lot of time with her brother and cousins Bobby and Shirley Clements. She attended Harlandale High School in San Antonio, Texas, graduating in 1958. She met Marvin Strowder Murphy in November, 1958 and they were married on December 31, 1958 in San Antonio, Texas. After marriage, they briefly lived in Tampa, Florida. Marvin was then stationed in Fairford, England with the United States Air Force, where their oldest daughter Kathy was born (1962). After their return from England, Marvin was stationed in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where their youngest daughter Kelly was born (1967). In 1969, Sandy and her family moved to Denver, Colorado and then Lakewood, Colorado where she raised her children with Marvin next to the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Her parents and Gary had also moved to Denver several years earlier. She remained close to them throughout the years. Her brother Gary married Beth Bowden in 1972.
Sandy held numerous jobs and was always a well-respected hard worker. She enjoyed working for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and made many life-long friends. She retired from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife in 2000 and spent retirement with her loving husband Marvin and a numerous assortment of well-loved cocker spaniels. She and Marvin made an excellent real estate team and she was supportive of his accomplishments. They were devoted to each other throughout their married life, having just celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. Sandy had a strong relationship with both of her daughters and was available to lend her advice and wisdom. She treated her son-in-law Tim like a son. She was a devoted Grandmother to her five grandchildren and supported them in all their activities. She absolutely loved to talk about her family. When not doing family activities, she kept busy managing the household, rental properties, and making scrapbooks. She took pride in her beautifully decorated home that she and Marvin had worked so hard to create. Anything to do with her family, Sandy was enthusiastically involved and supportive of all her daughters’ activities including cheerleading, theater, marching band, piano, and drill team. She was also an energetic Girl Scout Leader over many years. Sandy became active in Job’s Daughters (1975) when her daughter Kathy joined at the age of 13 and was active until her youngest daughter Kelly graduated from the organization 13 years later (1988). She chaperoned numerous activities and was well liked by all who worked with her. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends in her home for get-to-togethers and holidays.
Sandy was loved by so many. She is survived by her loving husband Marvin, her daughters, Kathryne Randle, Kelly Murphy, and son-in-law Tim Randle. She was cherished by her six grandchildren Thomas Randle, Jennifer Gallagher (Randle), grandson-in-law Garett Gallagher, and Kelly’s boys, Jacob, Samuel, and Andrew Berning.
