In Loving Memory of Shirley E. Scott
Shirley Scott, aged 91, passed away on June 24th after a courageous battle with cancer. She departed peacefully surrounded in her final days by many loved ones, listening and smiling to the recounting of stories.
Born on September 21, 1932, Shirley Edith Scott touched the lives of those around her with her strength, resilience, and unwavering spirit. Despite facing the challenges of her illness, she remained a beacon of hope and inspiration to all who knew her. Her grace in death became her final testament of her Christian faith.
Throughout her life, Shirley embodied kindness and compassion. Her selflessness and generosity knew no bounds, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of friends and family alike. Her legacy of love will be cherished by all who had the privilege of sharing in her journey.
Her life was filled with diverse experiences from her youth in New Jersey through the Depression and World War 2, her work for Lockheed on the Polaris missile, her journey as a young mother to rural France and Ohio in support of her husband Bill’s career, and finally the relocation to Colorado in 1972, with Johns-Manville’s move of its headquarters to the Ken Caryl Ranch.
Her life in Colorado was focused on raising a family and building community in a suburbia that sprung from cattle ranches with no identity. She welcomed new families to Colorado and supported numerous endeavors creating a sense of place; a place we know today as Columbine & Littleton. Central to all her work, was always St. James Presbyterian Church where for many years she served as both an active and beloved member of the Congregation and in various roles on the Church’s administrative staff.
