

Stephen (Steve) Lyle LaBelle, 67, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026 in Littleton, Colorado. Born i n Denver, Colorado, Steve built a life defined by loyalty, humor and deep appreciation for the simple joys that made each day meaningful. His passing came five years to the day after the loss of his beloved, mother, a connection that speaks to the enduring closeness of their bond.
Steve retired from Metropolitan State University after more than 30 years of dedicated service with the state of Colorado. His steady presence, strong work ethic, and genuine kindness left a lasting impression on colleleagues, students, and the community he served.
Outside of work, Steve found joy on the things that brought him closer to the people and experiences he loved most. He cherished family gatherings, where laughter, stories and togetherness meant everything to him. He loved taking trips with those closest to him, embracing every opportunity to explore and make memories. He adored the family dogs, and nothing made him smile more than enthusiastic greetings.
Steve also loved the outdoors- hunting and fishing were lifelong passions that connected him to nature and to the friends and family who shared those moments with him, He appreciated the beauty of God's creation, finding peace and meaning in the natural world around him. He never passed up the thrill of a good gambling trip, savoring the fun and anticipation it brought.
Steve is preceded in death by his mother, Roylene, and his father, Malcolm LaBelle, both of Denver, Colorado.
He is survived by sister, Shellee Onstott of Colorado, Cousins: Charlene Alley and Carol Brady of Colorado, Kathy Bergman of Minnesota, Brent Nelson of Alabama, Gary Nelson of South Carolina, Kristy Watkins of Bel Aire Kansas. He is also survived by his adopted family, including: Brothers: Mike Wanczyk, Frank Wanczyk, David Rudd of Colorado; sisters: Karen Rudd, Donna Ulibarri, Linda Wanczyk, Sherry Wanczyk, Rose Wanczyk of Colorado as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will carry his memory forward.
Steve will be deeply missed by his close friends and family. Life won't be the same without him, but he is at peace, and knowing that brings peace to those who loved him.
