Sue Ann Rasmuson died peacefully in the afternoon on Easter day, April 17, 2022, surrounded by her family. A longtime resident of Arvada, Sue had recently returned home from Arizona where she was happy to be reunited with family, friends, and many in the Faith Bible Chapel Community.
Sue’s great love was Jesus, her husband, her two children and their spouses, and her five grandchildren. She loved gathering her family together, especially during holidays, birthdays, and vacations. She was very protective of her family with a feisty yet kind demeanor. If the children or grandchildren were perceived to have been mistreated by her husband, Sue would correct the situation with a characteristic, “Jim!” She battled blood and neurological diseases throughout her life but was long suffering, putting others first. Sue would listen to people pour out their stories, even when she was not feeling well. Long conversations of encouragement to others were not uncommon, always pointing people back to the Lord, his acceptance and love. She loved adventure, travel, and the Hebrew roots of her Christian faith. Sue traveled to Israel three times, which deepened her love for the Jewish people. Sue was generous in a lavish way. She blessed her children with four cruises and encouraged many people to stay at her cabin in Estes Park, which she viewed as a ministry. She had a great sense of humor with a glint in her eye. Sue had open arms for many and quickly loved, especially children and animals. She used her artistic abilities to bless her family in many ways, whether decorating for the holidays or one time even painting Snoopy and his gang on the sliding glass door for her children.
Sue was born in Green Bay, WI, in 1946 to Ethel and Wilbur Rasmussen. As a child who lived in Green Bay, she loved to visit the bay and stay at the family cottage with her parents, aunts and uncles, and cousins. During her teen age years, she participated in high school athletics and had adventures, like riding the ferry across Lake Michigan with her best friend, Peg Petiniot. She graduated from East High School in 1964 and attended Wartburg College in Iowa, where she first met the love of her life, Jim Rasmuson. They first met because Jim and Sue had the same last name (Rasmuson, Rasmussen) but with a different spelling. Sue was quickly impressed with Jim when he carried her over a puddle on their first date in December of 1964. Sue and Jim were married on December 19, 1965, and had two children, Jeannine and Eric. Jim was an introvert in those days, while Sue was an extrovert. But somehow, they made it! As ministry partners, Sue and Jim led a Victors’ Support Group for chronically and terminally ill folks at Faith Bible Chapel in Arvada for more than ten years. Earlier, in the Lutheran Church, they were youth leaders. They also taught a Hebrew Roots Class for around 15 years.
In the health and sciences field, she worked in a nuclear laboratory for the atomic energy commission as a laboratory assistant, hospital ward clerk, dental assistant, and medical assistant. Sue also worked with emotionally disturbed students as a teaching assistant at Arvada junior high schools. Sue loved caring for infants at the Lutheran Medical Center Day Care. Her final employment position was being on the Board of Directors for the family’s business, where she loved to hire people from church.
Sue is survived by her husband of 56 years, Jim Rasmuson; her son Eric (Renee) from Littleton, CO; her daughter Jeannine (Daniel) from Arvada, CO; and her five beloved grandchildren, Madeline, Nick, Jacob, Nathan, and Robel. She also is survived by her sister and brother in-laws, a niece, and three nephews.
The funeral service will be held at Faith Bible Chapel, West Campus Worship Center and Atrium, 6250 Wright Street, Monday April 25, 2022, at 11:00 AM, with the meal and reception ending at 2 PM. In addition, there will be a livestream of the service starting roughly at 11:00 AM, Daylight Mountain Time with the internet link at faithevent.online.church
The Rasmuson's would love any donations in Sue’s honor to go to the missions' program at Faith Bible Chapel or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (www.jdrf.org).
