Terry “TJ” Hancock, Jr., 47, of Denver, Colorado, passed away surrounded by the beauty of the mountains he loved. He was born on October 24, 1978, at Logan County Health Center, proudly becoming the first baby ever born there.
Terry was an entrepreneur with a lifelong love of learning. He was a physical poet, musician, athlete, travel enthusiast, animal lover, and avid foodie. Terry filled every room with laughter, love, and a story. His larger-than-life personality captivated everyone he met.
He loved many things—especially food and football—but nothing compared to his love for his family and friends. Terry chased adventure, chose joy, and lived fully. His absence leaves an unfillable space, but his spirit remains in every memory, every mountain, and every story still being told.
Terry was preceded in death by great-grandparents Albert Doolin, Lavinia Gardner, Floyd Gardner, and Cleo Buckner; grandparents Darlene Doolin, Wayne Hancock, Willis Lorenz Sr., and Christeen Lorenz; uncle Greg Wilks; aunt Christeena Jones; and uncle Willis Lorenz Jr.
He is survived by his parents: Terry L. Hancock, Sr. and stepmom Gina of Pea Ridge, Arkansas; and Ethel A. VanBuskirk and stepdad Jim of Bridge Creek, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his brother Cory Hancock; his son Austin Hancock; Tisha Skaggs and Justin and family; aunt Darla Mach and Rick and family; uncle Jerry Hancock and Susan and family; aunt Tracey Lorenz and family; and hundreds of other family members and friends who adored and admired him.
A memorial celebration honoring Terry’s life will be held in his home state of Oklahoma in January 2026.
He lived boldly, loved deeply, and leaves behind a legacy of joy, adventure, and unforgettable stories.
