Theresa McSwain

Before starting her family, Theresa danced with the Katherine Dunham Dance Company in both the United States and Mexico. She then taught Ethnic Dance and Body Language in Pueblo, CO. She also choreographed operatic and musical productions while introducing the method of Free Expression in dance.

She later worked as a corrections officer for the Colorado State Penitentiary in Canon City. She was one of the first women to work in a men’s maximum security facility.

After retiring, she spent her time enjoying her family while continuing her love of theatre and music.

She is survived by her children, Blair Allen, Benita Allen, Christa Allen-Armstrong, Sherida Allen, Tracy Allen, Darik Allen (Laurie), Dana Hawkins (Bryan) and Bobbi Allen; she was the loving grandmother of Ariam Allen, Aleta Grove, Brandon Lennon, Daniel Lennon, Devin Allen, Varsey Green, Bianca Josephs, Briana Hawkins, Travis Hawkins, Elijah Hawkins, Kiara Hawkins; great-grandchildren, Donovan Grove, Joseph Holland and Elle Green.

Theresa was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar McSwain and Sister Mary Louise White.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, January 16, 2015 at Olinger Crown Hill.
