He is survived by his son Thomas (Tom) Laird III and daughter Rhonda (Laird) Sterling, and was preceded in death by his parents and older sisters Carolyn and Margaret Laird. Tom was born on May 20, 1933 in Albuquerque, New Mexico and was the only son of Thomas Kees Laird Sr. and Minnie (Kennedy) Laird. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War conflict in the 1950s and was very supportive of our military once he was honorably discharged. He was a graduate of the University of Colorado, Boulder and was very proud of his school and an avid follower of their football program up until his passing. He was married once, to Ms. Sandra (Kalkowski) Laird from 1965-1973, and remained amicable with Sandra and their children upon their divorce. Tom was very active in singles group Parents Without Partners (PWP) during the 1970s-1980s and served as area president in the mid-1970s.
Thomas spent over 30 years as a department store manager for Montgomery Ward and retired in 1993. He was an avid history buff and loved to discuss all aspects of US and European history, particularly the US Civil War and both World War I and World War II. He was also a collector of guns as well as antiques of all sorts but divested of his collections as he grew older. He loved to dance and was a regular at many dance clubs (Elks, American Legion, Proof of the Pudding, etc.) during the 1980s-2000s.
Tom will be laid to rest at Fort Logan National Cemetery upon his cremation and no services will be held as that was his wish. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends and we all know he is in a better place now. We will always carry his memory in our hearts and his quick wit and humor will be greatly missed!
