Active in scouting and ROTC as a teen, he worked at Lowry Field until he was old enough to join the Army. His seven years in the US Army included a combat tour in Korea and a subsequent tour in Japan.
While in the Army, he met and fell in love with his lifetime bride Phyllis. They married in 1950 and recently celebrated 70 years of marriage.
Back in Denver, he was a devoted father of three. He wore many hats to provide for his family.
Active in law enforcement as a Denver Police officer and then on to detective work, private investigations, and the Colorado Auto Theft Investigations (CATI). He went on to become the cornerstone of the Bear Valley Cop Shop. Walt was also a key figure in the development of the RV industry in the Denver area.
After retirement, he pursued his life long passion of working on and restoration of pre-war automobiles, specifically LaSalle and Cadillac. He was the proud owner of a 1940 LaSalle ( "Sally") which he fully restored to its original beauty. He was a long standing member of the CLC.
His wit and wisdom has inspired collectors world wide who called upon him for his expertise. His published articles from "Walt's Workbench" in the global magazine Self-Started are highly cherished by his family.
Walt, with his kind heart, wise council, humor and quick wit will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Walt is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis; sons, Brad (wife-Marlys) & Ken (wife-Suzi); daughter Patti (husband-Dan); six grandchildren, Derick (wife-Danielle),Nathan, Kendra (husband-John), Jenifer, Amanda & Allyson. He is also survived by 11 great grandchildren, several nephews and nieces.
